Effective use of Camouflage

A gun or bow is
useless when in the hands of someone who has not
learned its proper use. So it is with
camouflage. Just putting on a suit of camouflage
does not necessarily camouflage the wearer. The
following tips should allow your camouflage to
perform at its best.

Use a camo that
has colors dominant to the terrain you are
hunting.

Use a camo that
blends naturally with your background in the
majority of the situations when you will be
taking a shot.

When placing
your tree stand face it in a northerly
direction to keep the sun at your back,
and you in the shadows.

When hunting on
the ground having the wind in your face and
the sun at your back is the ultimate, but
not always possible. Move in the shadows as
much as possible.

Camouflage
face, hands, and any shiny equipment.

If you are on
the ground and game is approaching, you are
less likely to be noticed, or identified as
a threat, if you are kneeling or sitting.
-
For a "Quarry's
Eye" look at how well your tree stand or
blind blends in, back off thirty yards and
view it in a kneeling position.

Do not "Encase"
yourself in blow downs or other thick
foliage when calling turkeys for
safety sake. Set up so that your foreground
is relatively open, blending with your
background.
-
No camouflage
covers movement unless you' re in a blind.
Any movement when game is close must be
painstakingly slow. Your movement will be
less noticeable on windy days.

Never walk open
ridge tops to move on game. Always move just
below the ridgeline to keep from being sky
lined.
